With just a few more months of another transformative school year at our Mawewa School, our Grade 9 students are demonstrating the power of a practical, hands-on education.
With the crucial KJSEA (Kenya Junior School Education Assessment) approaching, our determined learners are completing meaningful projects that contribute to 30% of their final results.
More importantly, our students are building life skills that will serve them for years to come. The excitement and focus filling our school corridors reflect the dedication of both our students and the exceptional teachers who guide them every step of the way.
In Agriculture and Nutrition, under Miss Wanjala's expert guidance, students mastered essential life skills through two comprehensive projects. The first project was centered on the theme of ‘Hygiene in the Home,’ with the assignment to wash a loose-coloured garment.
The learners arrived with soaps, basins, and colourful fabrics in hand. They followed the proper hand laundering procedure, ending with a natural treatment of salt and lemon in the rinsing water, before carefully hanging the garments in the shade to dry.
Their second project involved preparing planting sites and establishing container gardens, where teams of four to five students planted 50 bean seeds each.
Over the coming weeks, our students will nurture these plants through watering, weeding, and monitoring, as they learn responsibility, patience, and the fundamentals of sustainable agriculture that are so vital to Kenya's future.
The creativity and ingenuity of our students truly came alive in their Creative Arts projects with Mr. Olwamba. For our students working in Creative Arts and Pre-Technical Studies, their talented young minds designed and constructed miniature stadiums using whatever materials they could gather—boxes, wires, manila paper, glitter, and recycled items from home.
What began as simple scraps became colorful models, showcasing our students' creativity, craftsmanship, and collaborative spirit.
Through these projects, our Grade 9 learners have not only met their academic requirements, but have also grown in confidence, practical skills, and resourcefulness.
Every achievement that our Mawewa School students make, both large and small, are only possible through the generous support of donors like you.
Your support provides the essential materials, salaries for our dedicated teachers and staff, and learning opportunities that transform the young people we are walking beside, as they prepare to become independent and productive members of their communities. Thank you!
