Field Report: May 2025
Field Report: May 2025

This morning, I read the story of the storm that nearly sank the ship of Jesus’ disciples. The storm was strong and their boat was small. If I was there, I probably would have been overwhelmed by the water washing into the boat. The good news is that God, who loves us, has command of the water.

In a similar way, we can shed the light of hope in a place where the darkness overwhelms our senses.

TV Debut

This week our youngest learners had the opportunity to be featured on national TV in Kenya for a children's program. Our students in pre-primary school played singing games and our older students shared poems in both English and Swahili.

Prayer request: We are thankful that our students were chosen to participate, and hope that this opportunity will build confidence and a lasting memory.

Past & Future Competitions

Our students participated in legball, netball and soccer against schools in our area. We performed well, but only our Junior Secondary Boys soccer team advanced to the finals. Looking ahead, the regional competitions for the National Music Festival take place this week. We have many students from all three schools competing in different categories.

Prayer request: For excellence in the areas we have influence. Competition also shows areas where students can grow, so we pray for wisdom, receptive hearts, and confidence rooted in the right places.

Strathmore University Visit & College Prep

Strathmore University, home of Kenya’s #1 business school, will host our seniors on June 25th. The Class of 2025 will receive guidance on their options after high school, and how they can properly prepare for that transition. We are grateful for the continued partnership with Strathmore!

Prayer request: For an excellent senior year, and for the Lord to open doors for students who desire higher education or the right career. Thank the Lord for his favor with Strathmore.

Mentorship & Father’s Day Event Tomorrow

At Chelezo High School in Wote, Kenya, our students will be guided through Mentorship Saturday. At the same time in Mathare, eduKenya Father's Day celebrations led by Njenga, our community development coordinator, will also take place. We welcomed more than 70 dads last year, and are excited for this year’s gathering.

Prayer request: Pray for an impactful day for both children and their parents. Pray for dads to take an active role in the lives of their children, and that our staff would be courageous and compassionate as we continue walking with our families.

Wandering Students

One of our students, Jonathan*, has struggled in the classroom and at home. He did not report to school at the beginning of second term, so we met with his parents. Despite their frustration, we recognized they are committed to plugging him back into school. We are grateful because we are working on a plan with his parents to best engage him, and welcome back to school.

Prayer request: For favor with Jonathan, and that he would desire education, a quality relationship with his family, and, most importantly, welcome the transformational power of Christ into his life.
